Dr Francesco Manfredonia

I am a Neurologist trained in both Italy and the United Kingdom, registered as a specialist in both countries.

Since 2017, I have led the Neurology and Neurophysiology services at the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, introducing practical improvements to enhance patient care.

I believe empathy and listening are central to providing good medical care, and I strive to understand each patient’s unique experience. This perspective has guided my work in developing a one-stop-shop first seizure and epilepsy service, designed to streamline patient access and provide comprehensive care from diagnosis to management.

I also have extensive experience in electromyography and electroencephalography, and I have contributed to expanding the Neurophysiology Department while providing training to ensure these techniques are used effectively.

As part of my clinical work, I have published research in peer-reviewed journals, supported the education and training of healthcare professionals, and worked closely with colleagues across specialties to deliver well-rounded care.

My focus on innovation and understanding patients’ needs has helped create safe and effective neurological services that prioritize people above all else.

In addition to my work as a Consultant Neurologist, I am also a Trainee in Analytical Psychotherapy at the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy (WMIP). This training reflects my long-standing interest in the interface between neurology and psychology. In time (expected within the next year), I will be offering psychotherapy sessions for patients who wish to explore treatment from a combined neurological and psychodynamic perspective.
